Our Firm is committed to doing our part in the communities where we live and work. We extend a hand of friendship to organizations engaged in worthwhile causes, including the International Save the Children Alliance.
Save the Children, the world’s largest independent organization of its kind, upholds the interests of children around the world. In 2001, our Intellectual Property practice partnered with the organization to free its staff to concentrate on the important mission of delivering immediate and lasting improvement to the lives of children around the world.
From emergency relief to long-term development, Save the Children fosters happy, healthy and secure childhood. The organization secures and protects children’s rights — to food, shelter, health care, education and freedom from violence, abuse and exploitation.
We help safeguard the Save the Children brand, fluently managing the organization’s trademark portfolio and other intellectual property in more than 42 countries. Our work involves the seamless collaboration and deep local knowledge of lawyers from at least 12 of our offices worldwide, pro bono.
With its intangibles protected, Save the Children attains numerous benefits, including public recognition, contributor loyalty and integrity of image — all essential for sustainable, effective service in the communities, countries and global regions where children most need help.
In its 2007 annual report, Save the Children stated, "Baker & McKenzie provided invaluable help with our ongoing work to protect the Save the Children logo and brand around the world."
And since 2001, our support for Save the Children has expanded into other areas, including merchandising, governance, organizational structure, global management, finance, fund-raising, IT contracts and data protection. In 2008, we analyzed and advised on tax issues associated with recruiting a new secretary general.
