Eugene A. Arievich heads the Firm’s CIS Intellectual Property Practice Group. He is ranked as a leading individual by PLC Which Lawyer? 2009, and has been described by Chambers Global 2009 as a “leading IP specialist with a wealth of experience.” Mr. Arievich is a member of the INTA Dilution & Well-Known Marks Committee, and has previously served on the INTA Board of Directors. Additionally, he represents Russia on the Advisory Board of World Intellectual Property Report and acts as co-counsel to the Coalition for Intellectual Property Rights. Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie in 1996, Mr. Arievich served as a partner in a USSR/Russian IP firm which he co-founded in 1988.

Mr. Arievich’s practice encompasses each area of IP law throughout the CIS, with a special emphasis on all aspects of trademark protection. His practice also includes litigation and enforcement in trademark, patent, copyright and other IP-related matters.
Representative Legal Matters
- Successfully represented Grande Group in a well-publicized litigation case against a Hong Kong-based company regarding the registration of the AKAI trademark belonging to Grande Group from Singapore.
- Successfully represented major Russian search engine, Yandex, before the Chamber for Patent Disputes in a landmark trademark case.
- Successfully represented Intel Corporation in a number of administrative and judicial proceedings.
- Represented Starbucks Corp. in a case involving the annulment of the right of a Russian company to use the client’s trademark. The landmark case helped facilitate the company’s expansion into the Russian market.
- Represented Diageo, a major multinational spirit producer, in various court actions contesting decisions of the Patent and Trademark Office.
- Advised Heinz (H.J.) Company on the intellectual property aspects of its acquisition of Petrosoyuz, the principal Russian ketchup, condiments and sauces producer.
- Advised Gallup Corporation on the cancellation of an offending trademark and obtaining vacations in the Federal Court of four lower court judgments over a decision of the Chamber for Patent Disputes of the Russian PTO.
