Beat Mathys is highly seasoned in all aspects of mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts and litigation. A member of the Firm’s Dispute Resolution Practice Group in Zurich, Mr. Mathys is ranked among the leading litigators by Legal 500. Mr. Mathys also teaches business law at the University of St. Gallen/Switzerland. He currently serves as co-hiring partner in Baker & McKenzie’s Zurich office and co-led the publication of a 1500-page commentary to the new Swiss Federal Act on Civil Procedure, published by Baker & Mckenzie.

Practice Focus

Mr. Mathys advises Swiss and international clients on commercial contracts, litigation and arbitration. He also provides skillful counsel on domestic and cross-border transactions, commercial matters and related disputes.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Represented CFO of publicly traded company in a D&O litigation against shareholders (EUR250 million; ongoing since 2008).
  • Advising Masai Group International and its shareholders in the sale of a minority stake to Berkshire Partners, LLC, together with Martin Furrer.
  • Advising SIG Group in the sale of its beverages division to Salzgitter, together with Urs Schenker and Florian Kaestle.
  • Representing CEO and CFO of publicly traded company in a D&O litigation against shareholders (EUR70 million; ongoing, since 2008).
  • Representing a Swiss publicly listed financial institution in a dispute with a customer related to leveraged investments.
  • Representing the receiver in a criminal procedure against former directors (EUR900 million).
  • Representing board members in D&O litigation.
  • Representing securities dealer in FINMA investigation.
