Global Real Estate Taxation Guide 2011
Book
April 2011
As real estate markets continue to recover around the world, governments are embracing regulation in order to assist in the stabilization of values and in order to encourage investment. Up-to-date knowledge of real estate tax law is an essential ingredient when formulating the most appropriate real estate tax strategy.
Similar to previous editions, the 2011 Edition of the Global Real Estate Taxation Guide is intended to provide basic tax information on real estate investments in many jurisdictions. Each chapter summarizes a country's tax treatment of real estate investments from acquisition to disposal. It also provides an overview of the main tax rates that are pertinent to the real estate industry and includes a general discussion of the tax incentives given to Real Estate Investments Trusts and other similar real estate investment vehicles.
This edition of the Guide incorporates changes in real estate taxation that have arisen since the last edition, including China's Urban Maintenance and Construction Tax and Education Surcharge, Singapore's Land Intensification Allowance, Vietnam's Law on Non-Agricultural Land Use Tax, France' 2011 Finance Act, Poland's Goods and Services Tax Act, Brazil's thin capitalization rules, Chile's new corporate tax rates, US' Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010, as well as anticipated changes in the Czech Republic's VAT rules and Japan's tax reform proposals. We have also added chapters from Luxembourg (our most recently opened office) and Thailand. The current edition is prepared wholly by Baker & McKenzie lawyers in their respective jurisdictions.
