This Introduction distills some of our collective experience advising both suppliers and users of outsourced services to explain how these relationships are built, and how risks are allocated and managed through effective contracts. Outsourcing presents some unusual challenges, because the relationships are durable, require deep collaboration between organizations, involve operations scattered around the globe and are beginning to attract increased attention from legislators and regulators worldwide.
